The state name is from Indian, meaning "the place where you live together with friends." In the 19th century, North Dakota was considered part of the old West. North Dakota was part of the Dakota territory before Chengzhou, named after the Dakota of the Native Americans; North Dakota joined the Union in 1889 and is the 39th state of the United States.
